Camping in Ciudad Real
Ciudad Real. Founded in 1255, still carries traces marked by its border situation between Arab civilization and Christianity. Its provincial capital dates back to 1833.
The most interesting monuments to visit are the Puerta de Toledo, Mudejar churches of S. Peter (the ancient temple city), Santiago (Gothic, ss. Xiv-xv) and the Cathedral of Our Lady of Prado. In the old Jewish quarter, the arched entrance to the Royal Palace and the Provincial Museum.
Other points of interest: In the area of Campo de Calatrava and Valdepeñas, and the road through Jabalón, one arrives at Aldea del Rey and the C-410, in Calzada de Calatrava (the ruins inexcusable Calatrava la Nueva and Salvatierra Castle). Returning for the C-410, passed by Viso del Marqués, Santa Cruz de Mudela, sanctuary of Virtues (visit) and, finally, Almagro, declared a Historic-Artistic Site. Nearby, La Solana (beautiful square and para. Of St. Sebastian, s. xv).
In the area of the Ojos del Guadiana are the Tablets of Coldstream (National Park of great ecological value), Coldstream, Villarrubia of Eye, Puerto Criptana Lápice & Field, one of the prettiest villages in La Mancha. From here to Alcazar de S. Juan (Archaeological Museum) opens a beautiful landscape adorned by the quaintness of its mills. Pedro Muñoz (ecological gap), Tomelloso (museums, Posada de los Portales) and S. Carlos del Valle are other interesting towns. Sierra Morena is another exciting itinerary for nature lovers: take the N-420 to Almodovar del Campo heading to pt. of Niefla (beautiful views of Campo de Calatrava and Valle de Alcudia). Campos de Montiel also starting from the wine Valdepeñas to Villanueva de los Infantes and the beautiful lakes Ruidera of inevitable visit. Finally, the Montes de Toledo, leaving the N-401 from Ciudad Real to Fernancaballero, where there are several interesting options-all-to go into its magnificent landscapes.
